I worry for us next season if we are rewarding utter averageness with 5 year contracts.

We need to sign alot of players.

Re: Captain fantastic?
For once I am prepared to give Rodfarts the time of day here. In answer to the question "Did he have anything to give in the 1st place?" the answer is a resounding "yes". But he has had a poor season so in the main, Rodfarts is asking some fair questions. In Noble's defense, I would like to think that part of the problem is that Allardyce's caution and negativity has got into his head, which is understandable. I would also like to think that another manager will be able to bring out the more positive aspects of his game. I also agree with those below who have said that he is better with a higher class of player around him and particularly in front of him. But he really does need to work on his tendency to meekly surrender possession in the final third - that has been worrying this season.

Re: Captain fantastic?
Been saying all season that you can't play noble and nolan together as there's too little pace between them. Nolan is the major issue there, not noble.

Noble isnt world class but he's not a terrible player by any means.

Hi Leroys - great to hear from you, mate.

I have few connections at the club these days - they've all been sacked over the years: that's modern football for you! I don't really cover sport so much these days - unless it's investigating criminality - so I'm not really in the loop.

I might pick up on any noises coming from one of the main contenders, so I'll try to keep WHO posted if I do hear anything.

The player who was sorely missed yesterday?noble.
as soon as lard ass has gone and no longer accommodated in the team he will be fine.his best games this season, apart from Everton, MOM, have been when Nolan wasn't playing.

Good morning sbbb !, long time no speak fella, how are you ?

Heard any snippets re a replacement ?

Re: Captain fantastic?
Almost every manager who has coached and managed Mark Noble talks about what a good footballer he is. Even after they have left the club. Curbishley, Zola, Grant and now Allardyce all speak highly of him.

Scott Parker, one of the most popular West Ham players to wear the shirt in recent years, speaks very positively about what a good all-round footballer Noble is. So do other past captains.

So professional football coaches, managers and players seem to like him, but a few vocal fans - the kind who thought that Frank Lampard was only in the side because of his dad - don't.

Hmm, let me think...who will I be listening to...?

Nolan needs to be shifted as quickly as possible. Inaffective and too slow.

Re: Captain fantastic?
We all k now in our heads who we would buy and sell. For me, Noble would be struggling to make the bench most weeks. He'd be a squad player just as O'Brien has been. That is how high i rate Noble and this is where a player of his level needs to downgrade to and be replaced with much better players in order to consistently finish in the top 6-8.

What do you think he will make of nolan then?

Re: Captain fantastic?
5 year contract might not matter. Any new manager will soon see Noble for what he is - average at best.

I couldnt believe they gave him a new 5 year contract. Absolute crazy decision.

Re: Captain fantastic?
Hopefully the new manager will encourage our centre backs to bring the ball out of defence - far too often noble has been playing square balls literally 5-10 yards away from our central defenders. also, it was great to see kouyate making a 50 yard run from central defence into the Man Utd half when he played centre back.

Noble has had so much of the ball in open play and from dead ball situations. The return does not not justify his role.

The Bard 10:19 Mon May 25
Re: Captain fantastic?
he has had a poor 2nd half of the season but then they all have bar Adrian.

If the new manager plays the high pressing game that most of us want to see our midfield is going to struggle. Only Kouyate has the legs for that.

Re: Captain fantastic?
I think Noble has suffered much in the same way as Song has - once Nolan was back in the side and Sakho was out injured they had far fewer options available to pass to and had no option but to either run into trouble (Song and to some extent Noble), attempt very difficult passes (both) or attempt to retain possession by sideways or backwards passing (mainly Noble). They both need more mobile players making themselves available to continue any attacking momentum; when Downing played at the tip of the diamond he did just this, along with Sakho and Valencia; once Downing was moved to the wing to accommodate Nolan, and to some extent when Carroll played instead of one of the other two, we lost that flexibility.

You only have to look at how good Noble was both in the first half of this season as well as when he had Tevez in front of him to know that while Noble has his limitations, mainly his lack of pace, he is actually a very good player when the players around him are better.

We clearly missed him in yesterday's game from both an ability and leadership perspective. I really hope to see him ram fordstar's (and all his other usernames) comments firmly back down his throat next season under a new manager and with better players around him.

Re: Captain fantastic?
An end of season recap from Rodfarts on the subject seems fair enough to me.

Personally I'd like to give Noble the chance to improve under a new manager. If I'm honest, I'm not that hopeful.
